How to clean an area rug with a carpet cleaner?
- Check the label and fibre (wool, jute, synthetics, etc.). Some delicate fibres need professional cleaning.
- Vacuum both sides to remove grit. Treat spots with a fibre-safe stain remover.
- Spot test your carpet cleaner on an inconspicuous corner; watch for colour bleed or texture change.
- Use a low-moisture setting and a neutral cleaner. Work with the pile, avoiding over-wetting—especially on wool or viscose blends.
- Rinse lightly if your machine allows, then dry thoroughly: lift the rug on a rack, circulate air and avoid direct, harsh heat.
- Brush or vacuum to restore the pile once fully dry. When in doubt, choose a professional rug cleaner.

- Minimum rule: place the front legs of the sofa on the rug to anchor the seating area.
- Best fit for most living rooms: 8' x 10' for a standard sofa; 9' x 12' for larger rooms or sectionals.

- Large, open plans: consider 10' x 14', 12' x 15' or 12' x 18' to unify all seating pieces.
